Tinanom Siha (Plants) is a series an ongoing exploration of my relationship with plants. These drawings represent an echo of time spent eliminating the distance between myself and the native plants of my homeland and Oceania—distance created by globalization, war, hyper-militarization of the Pacific, and continued colonization and occupation of our lands and waters. To create is to conjure. I am conjuring wholeness, Indigenous sensibilities, and a relationship with tano yan i tåsi (land and ocean) that is eternal, despite our (sometimes) geographic separation.
